First Editions Club

Why should I join the First Editions Club?

As a First Editions Club (FEC) member, you will receive a 20% on all non-FEC purchases and will receive some of the finest books being published for your reading pleasure and home library. Also, there is no easier way to support Newtonville Books and ensure we continue to host good writers each year. Past visiting authors selected in the FEC include Pulitzer Prize-winning author Edward Jones (The Known World), Tom Perrotta (Little Children), Jim Harrison (True North), Kent Haruf (Eventide), Nicole Krauss (The History of Love) & James Salter (Last Night).

What is the First Edition Club (FEC)?

We deliver a signed first edition (occasionally two) every month to your doorstep or hold it for you to pickup at the bookstore. The selections are predominately fiction and chosen based on literary content and potential future collectability. This may mean choosing an established author or singling out a new writer for our support.

What is a first edition?

Book readers sometimes become interested in collecting when books become important objects that they wish to own, admire and preserve. These bibliophiles develop a passion for an author's work or subject area, wishing to create a fine and complete collection of work. To dealers and collectors, the first edition is the most desirable and valuable edition.

A first edition is the first printing of a book. First editions are distinguished from subsequent printings as they represent the closest edition in time and intent to the author's original work. Identification of firsts can vary greatly among publishers. A signed first edition can become a special and valuable book for the owner.

What does it cost to join the FEC?

There is no cost to join and your credit card is charged only at the time the monthly FEC selection is shipped to you or prepared for your pickup. All you pay is the publisher's retail price of book ($22 - $28 price range) plus a $5 shipping charge. There is no shipping charge if you select to pick up the book at the bookstore.

Can I return a book if I choose not to keep it?

You are always welcome to return a selection within ten (10) days with the receipt for a full refund or within thirty (30) days for a store credit. We just ask that you give us prior notification when possible.

Can I give someone a membership to the FEC as a gift?

Yes, you can give an FEC as a gift for a specified time period of twelve (12) months, twenty-four (24) months or indefinitely. You can cancel the gift membership at any time. We offer free gift wrapping.
